Key Takeaways:

  • Independent efficacy validation is gaining momentum across the beauty industry.
  • S.A.F.E. Seal and Prestige Testing will strengthen product testing.
  • Scientific evidence has become essential for beauty brand credibility.

As beauty brands face increasing pressure to substantiate product claims, independent efficacy validation is emerging as a new competitive advantage. The S.A.F.E. (Scientifically Approved Formula & Efficacy) Seal has announced a strategic collaboration with clinical and consumer beauty research firm Prestige Testing, creating what the organizations describe as a more structured pathway for brands to generate, review, and validate evidence supporting product performance.

The partnership combines Prestige Testing’s clinical and consumer trial capabilities with the S.A.F.E. Seal’s independent scientific review framework, which evaluates whether a product’s formulation rationale, biological relevance, efficacy testing, and marketed claims are meaningfully aligned.

Unlike traditional product testing, the S.A.F.E. Seal evaluates the complete body of evidence behind a finished formulation. The review focuses on how clinical studies, consumer perception data, scientific literature, formulation rationale, and product claims work together to support a brand’s efficacy story.

The collaboration comes as brands navigate heightened scrutiny from consumers, retailers, and investors, all of whom increasingly expect efficacy claims to be supported by robust scientific evidence rather than ingredient marketing or isolated testing results.

"Beauty brands are generating more data than ever, but data alone does not always tell a complete efficacy story," said Dr. Ekta Yadav, founder of the S.A.F.E. Seal and host of the Skin Anarchy podcast, in a press release. "A product can have clinical testing, consumer perception results, ingredient literature, and strong marketing language, but the real question is whether all of those pieces actually connect."

Under the collaboration, Prestige Testing will become a preferred efficacy testing agency for brands pursuing S.A.F.E. Seal validation. While Prestige Testing will help brands design and conduct clinical and consumer studies, the S.A.F.E. Seal will independently assess whether the resulting evidence supports the product’s stated performance claims and formulation strategy.

"The beauty industry is entering an era where evidence is no longer a differentiator—it's the expectation," said Elizabeth Corrigan, founder and CEO of Prestige Testing, in the press release. "Together with the S.A.F.E. Seal, we're delivering what the market has been missing: a fully integrated validation pathway that transforms scientific integrity into true commercial credibility."

The organizations say the model is intended to address a growing disconnect between product testing and marketing claims by helping brands create a more coherent evidence package from formulation through commercialization.

For retailers and investors, the collaboration reflects a broader industry shift toward greater accountability around efficacy claims as due diligence increasingly extends beyond ingredient lists and headline clinical results.

The S.A.F.E. Seal, created by Skin Anarchy, is positioned as an independent review framework rather than a regulatory certification. It does not replace legal, regulatory, or safety review, nor does it constitute FDA approval or guarantee individual consumer results. Instead, it provides an additional layer of third-party assessment focused on whether a product’s scientific rationale, testing methodology, and performance claims are supported by the evidence submitted for review.

As evidence standards continue to rise across the beauty industry, collaborations that combine clinical testing with independent scientific review may become an important tool for brands looking to demonstrate credibility in an increasingly scrutinized marketplace.
